Hello Parents,
There is a saying that good things come in small packages. Well, the Parent Association meeting on Saturday, October 14th certainly proved that to me! Even though we did not have a large turnout for the meeting, the small group that attended was able to accomplish some great things.
First, we were able to elect a new Treasurer and Secretary in our expedited elections. Please welcome to the PA Board Wendy Asencio (Treasurer and 7th grade parent) and Lynette Madera (Secretary and 8th grade parent)! They are both lovely ladies who have consistently volunteered and been active PA participants. I look forward to working with them closely over throughout the school year to accomplish many great things through the Parent Association.
Second, we were able to elect a Chairperson and Co-Chair for the Title 1 committee. Ironically enough, our same two parents were elected for these roles as well with Ms. Asencio as the chairperson and Ms. Madera as the co-chair. As I said, these ladies are putting in work on all our behalves, so please give it up for them!! They deserve many kudos for willingly taking on dual roles.
Third, we reviewed the full list of activities, events, and fundraisers that will be conducted this school year. This included the upcoming Giving Thanks Feast in November, the upcoming picture day in December, and the family dance also coming up in December. I will soon be reaching out to those who signed up for committees so that we can get these projects in the works.
Fourth, we were fortunate enough to have our wonderful principal Ms. Williams join us for part of the meeting. We got to shoot the breeze with her a bit before getting into the elections. She also listened to some concerns regarding the after school program and addressed them on the spot. She contacted Director Haynes and he was at the meeting within minutes. Together (principal, parents, and director), we were able to come to come to an understanding of what is currently taking place and gain some consensus around processes going forward. This powerful interaction is what the Parent Association is all about. The school working with parents and parents working with the school to ensure that everything is working in favor of our children.
Special thanks to Ms. Asencio for giving out free make-up samples from Avon!!
The success of the Parent Association depends on having input, support and participation from as many parents as possible. So even if you cannot attend the meetings in person, feel free to connect with the PA board via email at
PA@pgms566.org to share your feedback. Contact us with any questions, comments, or if you would like to volunteer for committees and upcoming events.
Hope to see you at the next PA meeting on Thursday, November 9th at 6:00pm.
Most Sincerely,
Letecia Stewart
President, Parent Association of PGMS
